What does Made in the USA mean to You?

At Rider’s Claw our SmartPhone Motorcycle Mounts and MP3 Motorcycle Mounts are 100% MADE IN THE USA with some of the highest quality materials found in the USA. Our competitors put out mounts that claim to be made in the USA when in fact the parts are foreign and then assembled on American soil. Technically they are permitted to call this process “made in the USA”. It’s everybody’s right to engage in free-enterprise but in recent months we have pondered if Americans really care about the origin of the products in which they invest their hard-earned cash. And do Americans care about the value they are getting?

We have found surveys and polls from a plethora of organizations that generally show Americans would LIKE to buy products made in the USA but cost and convenience are largely responsible for why they choose foreign made products. In studies when Americans were asked if they actually checked packaging for MADE IN THE USA symbols or verbiage; more than 65% answered NO. We wonder… If you are in the aisle and there are 6 of the same type product, how much time would it really take to check for MADE IN THE USA? Now, we understand that if product A is made in the USA and is 20% higher in cost than product B, economics will certainly be a factor in today’s tough economy. But do American’s want a quality product that lasts, has a warranty, can be easily returned, has customer service on American soil with humans that actually answer the phone, or heck – maybe even a trade-up policy? For an extra 5, 10, or 15% more, would you pay for that kind of quality, service, and value; or would you just buy another foreign product when the old one breaks or no longer suits your purpose?

“For most customers price by itself is not the key factor when a purchase is being considered. This is because most customers compare the entire marketing offering and do not simply make their purchase decision based solely on a product’s price. In essence when a purchase situation arises price is one of several variables customers evaluate when they mentally assess a product’s overall value.

Value refers to the perception of benefits received for what someone must give up. Since price often reflects an important part of what someone gives up, a customer’s perceived value of a product will be affected by a marketer’s pricing decision. Any easy way to see this is to view value as a calculation:

Value = perceived benefits received
       perceived price paid

Often times customers’ perception of a product is formed as soon as they learn the price, such as when a product is first seen when walking down the aisle of a store. While the final decision to make a purchase may be based on the value offered by the entire marketing offering (i.e., entire product), it is possible the customer will not evaluate a marketer’s product at all based on price alone. It is important for marketers to know if customers are more likely to dismiss a product when all they know is its price. If so, pricing may become the most important of all marketing decisions if it can be shown that customers are avoiding learning more about the product because of the price.” ~ (Quoted from Article on July 24, 2015 by KnowThis.com) For Full Article – Click Here

Since the Rider’s Claw family loves motorcycles, rides motorcycles, and designs a quality product exclusively for motorcycles; we decided to do our own survey of – you guessed it – motorcyclists. Our findings were a bit different from the general studies we found online, but still – we believe that Americans are not giving themselves the quality and value they deserve when spending their hard-earned cash. Our survey showed:

  • Made-in-the-USA-blue-283% of respondents indicated that they actively seek products Made in the USA
  • 98% of respondents indicated they would buy a product Made in the USA over others even if the cost was a few dollars higher.
  • 93% of respondents indicated they read labels in search for Made in the USA products
  • 33% of respondents did not know that products using foreign parts but assembled in the USA could use the label “Made in the USA”
  • 78% of respondents indicated they thought that the USA could survive solely on products grown and Made in the USA.

So it would seem that our motorcycling Americans certainly do their best to support and purchase products grown and Made in the USA. This is refreshing to us at Rider’s Claw because we put a lot of effort into ensuring that product is of the highest quality and made right here in Illinois, USA.
